Ministry and Vacation

As some of you know, Edy, Elsie, Dinette and I left the capital Sunday after service to go to the southern part of Haiti on vacation.
We stopped first by a village where there is a school that we oversee, to encourage the teachers and the missionaries who work with them.
We also took the time to drink some coconut juice. And this is a picture of where we stayed for 3 days: a beautiful place.

More Laptops for the Computer Lab

We are praising God this week for the gift of 8 used laptops given recently by a friend of the ministry whose company was upgrading to newer laptops. Seige brought four of the computers back with him from his trip to the U.S. The rest should arrive with a group coming toward the end of November. From the picture below, you can see some of the computer students learning to reformat hard drives and reinstall Windows XP on the new laptops.

Just For Men

Saturday night Calvary Chapel Port-au-Prince hosted a meeting just for men. The theme was: "Toward A Balanced Life". During the 1st half of the meeting Dr. Shelove gave a PowerPoint presentation regarding basic male hygeine including information about sexually transmitted diseases, followed by a question and answer session. For the second half, pastor Edy challenged the guys to strive to become REAL BIBLICAL MEN. Many of Haiti's current problems will not be solved until men step up to the plate and take on the Biblical role of men in their families, in their occupations, and in their churches. He finished by emphasizing God's will for us as men to be sanctified completely: in spirit, soul, and body (1 Thes. 5:23)

School of Ministry

Since September, twenty students have been meeting on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the newly formed School of Ministry. The present teaching is focusing on four areas:

1) Bible Survey : In this course we are especially emphasizing the various types and prophesies in the O.T. which pointed to Jesus as the Messiah
2) Introduction to the Bible: This course explores and explains the different kinds of liturature found in the Bible
3) Bible Doctrine: So far we have covered the Doctrine of God, the Doctrine of the Diety of Jesus, and are currently studying the Doctrine of Salvation
4) Practical Ministry: In this course students are required to take notes of sermons preached at Calvary Chapel's worship services and give analysis of these messages

Learning to SERVE

Yesterday several of the Calvary Port-au-Prince young people gave up their afternoon to help begin cleaning up both the yard and the inside of the Calvary Christian Family Orphanage. Learning to SERVE (and to serve faithfully) is an integral part of growing in the Christian life--something that we are trying to instill in hearts of Christians here. Good works will never save us; but good works are always a product of a truly regenerated person.

Latest Baptism

Jesus commanded us to, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you..." (Matt. 28:19-20) In obedience to Jesus' command, several new believers were baptized this past week. Pray for these new disciples of Christ. Here are a couple of photos:

More Calvary Christian Family Photos

Here are a few more pictures of the orphanage as seen from the street. Please be praying that God will raise up spiritual leaders from this ministry.

Calvary Christian Family Orphanage

We are praising God this week for the addition of a new and important ministry here at Calvary Chapel Port-au-Prince: CALVARY CHRISTIAN FAMILY ORPHANAGE. God in His grace has provided a house not too far from the church where we plan to house, care for and educate up to 20 young orphans. This last week we took possession of the property and began to do some initial cleaning and repair work. There is much that will need to be done to the house to get it into useable shape, but we are just thankful to have all the paperwork and legal aspects of the purchase finalized. The picture below shows the front of the house:
